After months of uncertainty surrounding its future, IPIC Theaters at Pike & Rose appears set to remain open.
A WARN notice filed with the State of Maryland on March 2 indicated that the luxury theater at 11830 Grand Park Avenue in North Bethesda was expected to close on April 28, potentially impacting 116 employees. When that date passed, employees told The MoCoShow that the theater would remain open temporarily, though they were unsure what the long-term future would hold. Now, that future appears much clearer.
CMX Cinemas announced Monday that select assets of the IPIC brand, along with several IPIC theater and restaurant locations, have become part of the CMX Cinemas portfolio. As part of the transaction, CMX confirmed that IPIC North Bethesda at Pike & Rose and City Perch Kitchen + Bar are among the locations that will continue operating.
According to the company, IPIC will remain the consumer-facing brand at participating CMX-operated locations, preserving the luxury moviegoing experience, premium seating, elevated food and beverage offerings, and hospitality-focused service that guests have come to expect.
“IPIC has long stood for a distinctive moviegoing experience built on hospitality, premium comfort and culinary service,” said Rafael Munoz, Chief Executive Officer of CMX Cinemas. “As we welcome IPIC into the CMX Cinemas portfolio, our priority is continuity for guests and team members. Guests should continue to experience IPIC as IPIC, with the same brand promise and elevated approach to hospitality.”
CMX said it has retained the theater and restaurant teams serving guests at the acquired locations, helping ensure continuity for both employees and customers. The company also noted that the IPIC website and mobile app will continue to function as normal, including ticket purchases, account access, rewards programs, gift cards, and membership benefits. CMX stated that it plans to continue investing in the IPIC experience while maintaining the brand’s signature dine-in theater concept.
The North Bethesda location was one of nine IPIC theaters included in the acquisition, alongside locations in Texas, Georgia, Florida, and New Jersey.
