The Woolsey Fire currently burning in Los Angeles County has destroyed much of the Western Town, a key feature of Paramount Ranch. The site was where the Main Street scenes in Westworld were filmed.

The news was first announced Friday by the National Park Service, which manages the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

The church featured in the HBO series was also built on the ranch, and appears to be still standing, according to a tweet from cast member Evan Rachel Wood, who plays the sentient android Dolores Abernathy.

iPhone XR review: Keeping compromises to a minimum

Samuel Axon

Steve Jobs famously believed the devices his company produced would bring technology to the masses, but he was rarely willing to make the compromises necessary to bring that vision to fruition. Apple has only sometimes released products that were priced for everyone.

That trend continued in late September with the release of the flagship iPhone XS, a compelling, envelope-pushing product that is nonetheless priced out of range for many consumers. Enter the iPhone XR, a close sibling to the XS that trades the latter’s expensive OLED display for an LCD and a dual-camera system for a single camera among other things—all to bring the price down just enough so more people can buy it.

Lime pulls faulty e-scooters after reports of battery fires

TwitterFacebook

E-scooter company Lime is cautioning riders and contract workers about malfunctioning batteries and other issues with some of its scooters.

Lime uses Segway Ninebot scooters in many of its cities, but after an August report about battery issues in "several" units, faulty scooters are being pulled from the fleet. What Lime calls a manufacturing defect sometimes led to smoldering batteries, which would then catch fire. Lime called these "isolated instances."

Back in August, Lime worked with Segway Ninebot to digitally monitor batteries for faulty units, which would then prompt a scooter deactivation. Lime says this affected scooters in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Lake Tahoe.  Read more...

Apple’s new MacBook Air may have left some 12-inch MacBook owners feeling a bit envious. As you can see in the image below, the older, lighter gold color has been updated to the same darker hue that Apple introduced with the new MacBook Air today. But the new color comes at a cost: Apple is also discontinuing the rose gold option in favor of the unified gold shade across the MacBook and MacBook Air lineups. Sorry, rose gold fans.

In other Apple-related color news, the company also released new versions of its...
